Facilitated Communication

Facilitated communication is an alternative means of expression for people who cannot speak, or whose speech is highly limited (e.g. echoed, limited to one or a few word utterances), and who cannot point reliably

-“Therefore, be it resolved that APA adopts the position that facilitated communication is a controversial and unproved communicative procedure with no scientifically demonstrated support for its efficacy.”

Basically, there is no evidence that FC works, and there is a lot of evidence that it does not work. In experiments run in controlled conditions facilitators could not produce the words their partner was receiving. this is in direct contradiction to the supposed abilities of the facilitator.
